Description

The HPX-2 generator kit comes complete with ME1112 PMA generator, 120VAC 2kW inverter, and 8" pelton water wheel. This is a great low-cost solution for an effiecient hydro-power turbine system.

PMA Generator

This is an outer rotor type, Permanent Magnet generator. The fan works best when the generator is run in the Clockwise direction, looking at the shaft. This unit can be connected to a standard gas engine to create an Inverter Generator through a set of pulleys to get the correct speed. It has very little cogging torque which means it will provide power with very little water pressure or wind force. The magnets are Ceramic and can run at very high temperatures, unlike Neodymium magnets that are only rated for 300-350 F.

There is a water seal on the shaft, and the mounting face has plenty of area to put a gasket or RTV sealant. The shaft and outer-rotor spins, and the center stator (coils) remains stationary. The generator diameter is 204 mm (about 8 inches). It can be mounted with 4 bolts, 5/16-18 on a 3.75 inch bolt circle (Bolts not included).

- This is a 3-Phase, Y-connected PMA Generator capable of 16 amps continuous (1000-4000 Watts).
- The generator has a stainless steel shaft and an aluminum hub that is designed to fit the supplied Pelton Water Wheel, but other items like pulleys can be directly mounted to the 7/8" diameter shaft with a 3/16" keyway.
- It can be directly connected to the Inverter Control using the supplied 6 pin connector

Inverter

The Inverter is a solid state electronic control that converts the output of the generator to clean 120 VAC, 60 Hz power with less than 5% total harmonic distortion (pure sine wave). As the speed of the generator varies form 1400 to 2500 rpm, the output is kept precisely at 120 VAC, 60 Hz. The maximum rated current is 16.3 amps. Maximum speed is 2500 rpm. Speeds above 2500 rpm can damage the Inverter control.

Pelton Water Wheel

This is a Pelton-type water wheel for Hydro-Electric generation projects. It measures 8.03 inches in diameter (204 mm). It has 12 die-cast aluminum cups that are bolted to a center hub. The hub has a hole in the center with a diameter of 0.786 inches (20 mm), and 8 additional 0.193 inch (5 mm) holes on a 1.38 inch (35 mm) bolt circle. The Cup outside diameter is 1.820 inches. The inside diameter is 1.460, and the total height is .700 inches. The deepest part of the cup is about 0.400 inches. The nozzle should be located about 3.5 inches from the center of the wheel, tangent to the diameter. This will provide the most torque and power.
